Final Folder: Archive files online with your email

One thing we all have are too many files with some sort of importance. The other problem is we do not always use a single computer. Take my example I usually end up working with 3 different computers from 3 different locations. This makes it important to collaborate files which you might want at all times. One handy method is using Drop Box to collaborate all files across systems.

I find Final Folder quite useful as there is not application to install like Dropbox and it works great as a online folder to save files as archives with your email address.

Final Folder requires you to register with your email address. Your email address also is then your username for looking Final Folder and the files you have archived within.
So if you have a file you want to archive and save for reference all you have to do is send an email with the files attached to keep@finalfolder.com from your registered email address.
This email address works even if it is entered in CC or BCC field.
This is very useful while cleaning up my Inbox of all those funny pictures and images and powerpoint presentations sent to my by my friends. I do not have to save them on my email Inbox but can archive or back them up on Final Folder.

Final folder is not exactly like DropBox or other similar services to save and sync files on cloud but is more relevant as a archive folder which can be saved online. Do try out Final Folder and let me know your views and opinions through your comments.

7Zip: Free alternative for WinZip and Winrar

I recently purchased a new computer and immediately started to search for WinZip software. The license costs money and the trial ware time limit gets over in a month or so. So now suddenly without realizing that the time limit for using Winzip had lapsed I was stuck with a zip file. This is where I came across 7-Zip which is a free alternative for WinZip and WinRar.

About 7-Zip File Manager

As I started of this post, 7-Zip is a free alternative for extracting and creating .zip and .rar files.
7Zip works fine on all Windows platforms from Windows 98 onwards to Windows 7. It also has a port for command line version for Linux/Unix.
It supports over 74 localized languages and also comes with integration with Windows shell.
The best feature of 7 Zip is that there is no need to even register or sign-up for using this application.

One thing the 7Zip website keeps harping on is that it has about 10% better compression rate compared to other applications around which compress multiple files.

If you want to share pictures on your blog, social networking websites or send via Email, the major problem is size of picture. Images big in size might make your blog to load slow and many mailing clients don't allow you to send larger images. Chrome extension to get original of a shortened URL

Shortened URL can be suspicious as it hides the URL of the website it is taking the person clicking on it. One of the main problems is when suspicious short URLs are shared by friends you know. This is quite a gaping hole in all the security measures we take and the only real way to protect against it fully, is to convert that short URL into the original one.

About Untiny Extension for Chrome

Untiny Extension is perfect for checking that short URL out and see where it is taking you before you actually click on it. The extension sits next to the address bar and hence is very reachable.
We had covered Unhid a website which also shows the entire URL once you enter a short URL along with PrevURL which shows a thumbnail of the original URL, but that is a webpage and not a extension on the browser itself like Untiny.
Most times I suspect short URLs is when it is sent through email or Facebook where there is no need to really to user short URL. As a matter of fact there are many instances in which one should not use short URLs.

I think I will find this extension quite handy. It is always better to have such a extension on your browser. With many services to create short URLs it is quite possible that we cannot always trust every short URL sent out to us.
