Help !! I Clicked My Adsense Ads By Mistake

Posted: 09 Apr 2010 08:00 AM PDT

adsense-banned

I wrote about a couple of days ago on some tips to get your adsense account approved. Once you have got it approved, you must be careful that you don't click on your own ads since this will result in a permanent ban from Adsense.

But it is human to make mistakes and it is possible that you might click your ads by mistake. Will Google ban your account for this one mistake? Will you lose all the money you have in your account?

Don't panic. If it is an honest mistake you don't have to worry. Google understands that "Accident Happens". In its official blog Google says that "we do understand that an accidental click may occur from time to time, so there’s no need to contact us each instance this occurs." Read the complete article on official Adsense blog.

Google closely monitors all the account activities, and when it detects a click from the publisher on his ad, it does not count them treating them as an accidental click. It assumes that you will be more careful after making a mistake and accidental clicks from you will reduce to zero. But if you continue clicking your own ads even after making a mistake, Google will realize that you are doing it intentionally to make some quick money. So avoid the temptation of committing "honest mistakes". No one knows how Google monitors these clicks and so it's better to be on the safer side.

How can you reduce accidental clicks?

One of the best ways to reduce accidental clicks is to not allow the ads to display when you view your website. You can do this by using Ad-Block Plus, a firefox add-on that disables advertisement from websites. You can disable the ads only for your site or for all the sites based on your preference. Read more about Ad-Block Plus for complete details.

There may be scenarios where you want to know who the advertiser is. Instead of clicking on the ad check tools like Adsense sandbox, which displays sample ads based on your site.

I still want to contact Google to be on a safer side

If you had accidentally clicked your own ad, and want to contact Google , use this form to notify Google. If you feel some jealous soul is clicking on your ads liberally to get your account banned, include the traffic stats and ip address of recent visitors.

If you are honest with Adsense there are many legitimate ways of using Adsense in different ways like including them in your RSS feeds which can really earn money without trying to break rules.

Do tell me of other tips you have which can be helpful in avoiding clicking on your own Ad-Sense links by mistake.

Allow your website visitors to send you files from an interface on your website

Posted: 09 Apr 2010 04:30 AM PDT

I have used few different websites to transfer large files on emails! Including yousendit, sendspace, wetransfer, dropbox etc.  All are very useful. There is another service which I think is not used by many and which could be very useful for some website and business owners!

It is basically a File Transfer facility on your own website!

This is not going to occupy your web server space nor bandwidth. This embeds file transfer interface on your website. The rest is the same process we already know.

Interesting feature of this is your website users or people who want to send you a file, do not really need to know your e-mail and they only fill up their e-mail address, a message & attach a file. That’s it!

You will never need to ask them to go to different sites & fill up the forms and send you a file! (Things are worse when clients/users are skeptical of doing this on unknown sites)

This feature is available for free on SendThisFile called as Filebox. (This is not free on sites I mentioned above.  This website requires a sign-up.)

There are two versions of Filebox available

  1. Free, standard one!
  2. Paid version with few branding customizations

But Personally, I think the standard free version is just perfect in serving the purpose!

filebox sendthisfile Allow your website visitors to send you files from an interface on your website

Click Here to see standard/free filebox I have created to show on DW!

Limitations

  • The upload speed will be SLOWER than a paid account.
  • The file will expire in 3 days.
  • The file can only be downloaded only 3 times.
  • We can send only one file at a time.
  • Ads are displayed with the interface.

Features

  • Fast download speed for the recipient that is you!
  • Download information available in “My Files” area of SendThisFile website.
  • You get notified by email when you receive files. :-)

If you find it useful for your website then do drop in your comments, also share with us any similar services you might have come across.

Gmail introduces nested labels and sneak peeks

Posted: 09 Apr 2010 01:49 AM PDT

When Gmail was first introduced it was quite a novel experience. I remember in those days Hotmail and Yahoo email interfaces were rigid and dull when compared to the Gmail which was by invitation only and still a beta product. I started using Gmail for backing up my old email and ended up using Gmail as my primary account. One of the key features I loved in Gmail was labels. It was a fantastic innovation and Gmail and now taken it a little further but introducing nested labels along with sneak peeks.

About Nested Labels

  • You can activate the beta feature of Gmail by clicking on Settings and then Labs. Under labs I needed to look up Nested Labels as seen in image below.

  • Now once the feature is working you need to make some changes to reorganize your Labels like seen above.
  • You will have to rename the labels. As you can see in the image right above I have My Labels and under it Twitter Label and under it resides SML ReTweet Club Label. Here I renamed Twitter as My Labels/Twitter and SMLRTclub as My Labels/Twitter/SMLRTclub and that created the nested label effect as seen in the image.

About Sneak Peek

  • To enable Sneak Peek just go under Settings and then Labs. Within Labs I needed to enable Sneak Peek feature in Gmail.
  • This allowed me to get a peek at the email by just right clicking while looking at it in the Inbox. This is very useful as I do not have to open the mail and get the gist of its importance with a simple right click. I like previewing email and that was a reason I had written about Gmail in tablet interface with Chrome as it gives you a preview very easily so you can skip to the next one.

Do try out these new features introduced by Gmail and let me know your opinions on it. Also do drop in through your comments what other Labs features you use with Gmail. :-)
