Manage your passwords on Windows and collaborate them with Dropbox

Posted: 28 Apr 2010 08:49 AM PDT

A password to any website is very precious and in some cases having a single password for all websites you register and sign-up with is not a wise idea. It means if someone breaks your password for one website it can make all your accounts with that same password very vulnerable.

Here I came across 1Password a tool to create passwords and save them on your computer in the form of a file.

About 1Password Manager

  • 1Password Manager is an all in one password storage manager for you while using Windows.
  • You can save up passwords of all your accounts being used with Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer and from then on you do not need to type in your user-name and password at every website.
  • This application does not support Chrome as yet and still is in beta stage for Windows users.

With 1Password I could create key-chains which are groups of user-names and passwords for various websites. For example I have personal and professional accounts for Facebook, Email and Twitter. I could save the key-chain as a file and sync it with Drop-box so when I went to my office I could retrieve all my accounts I wanted with the key-chain file at my work station. If you liked this post you might also want to read about Last Pass which is also another password manager we have reviewed on DW.

Download 1Password for Windows and let me know your views on it through your comments.

3 great websites to create RSS feeds of links shared on Twitter

Posted: 28 Apr 2010 05:20 AM PDT

My Twitter time-line is full of my friends who are sharing links with me of things they find interesting and most importantly they also end up writing about what they are doing to cricket scores and which movie they are watching over the weekend. Some of these tweets are quite irritating as like many people on Twitter, I usually want to look up interesting links which are shared by friends.

Here are three websites which will allow you to create RSS feeds of only the links shared people you are following on Twitter.

#1. Sift Links

  • This one is very simple. Just enter your Twitter account credentials and you Sift Links will show you immediately all the Tweets with links by people you follow.
  • Sift Links can also create RSS links for you to monitor all the links shared by your Twitter friends.
  • Finally the good part is this service does not need any registrations. :-)

#2. ReadTwit

  • ReadTwit is pretty similar to Sift Links but it does not display any links like Sift links does but creates a RSS feed directly.
  • Just enter the credentials on ReadTwit and you will get a RSS feed on only links.

#3. Twitter Lists 2 Rss

  • Sift Links and ReadTwit are great to create RSS feeds of all the links that are shared in your Twitter time-line but invariably we have Lists within Twitter and what about all the Links within the lists.
  • Twitter Lists 2 Rss allows you to create RSS feeds on specific lists on Twitter so you can narrow down the information you are looking for.
  • This can be very useful if you have a large number of people you are follow but have some important people who are listed and you want to absolutely follow.

These 3 websites I reviewed are probably great for someone looking to get information for a limited number of followers. Sometimes it is a little costly to follow people blindly as we do not know if the Tweets they share are too few or too many but glancing up and down a RSS feed is easier than looking up your Twitter timeline on a desktop app.

Get New Google Docs Editor and resize inline images

Posted: 28 Apr 2010 02:01 AM PDT

Google Docs has been busy in the past month or so and we can reach that conclusion with the number of changes Google Docs has brought into its layout and design structure. I have already written about new features with Google Docs which resemble Google Wave. Now you can also re-size images within a document while using Google Docs. But before all that you need to get the new Google Docs Editor

How to get new Google Docs Editor?

The new Google Docs Editor is not yet made available to everyone but you can enable it for any new documents you create with Google Docs.

  • While you have Google Docs open, click on Settings.
  • Under Settings you will need to select Editing.
  • Now as seen in image below check New version of Google documents and then Save the settings.

Now any new text document will be created with the new version of document editor.

How to re-size images which are inline?

Now once you create a new document and insert an image within the text, you can just click on it to get the options to re-size the image to suit your needs. This can be done automatically and the text around the image will adjust automatically pretty much like any other word processor. (see image below)

I liked the New editor layout for Google Docs so much that I do not think I will need to use MS Word again. Also Google Docs are very easy to share and Docs.com option of sharing MS Office documents with Facebook friends is still not revealed completely so for the moment Google is getting it right by sticking to getting a friendlier format rather than making it too complex.

Do let me know your view on Google Docs new editor and features and drop in your comments.
