Old browsers and safety [Thank Devil it's Sunday]

2292767362 c03b4a2dac Old browsers and safety [Thank Devil its Sunday] We all know old browsers like IE6 , Firefox 2, Google Chrome 3 and their older versions are just hazardous. By using them, you risk your online data, or even risk yourself; your privacy and everything you do on the internet.

One of the 'riskiest' place is social-networking sites. Not all social-networking are bad and trusting these less-harmful sites is just cool, you know.

There are hundreds of software to control usage of social-networking sites. But this one will take your heads off! Want to know the name? It's famous one. It is Microsoft Internet Explorer 6. IE6 has also got the label of the "worst web browser" in the past. Check out this funny usage of IE.

IE6 as a web limiter

Well, all you need to do is install IE6. Most of the social-networking sites will automatically block you. Facebook will do for sure. Some companies do use IE6 for the same purpose. The admins do not upgrade their browsers so that the employees wouldn't get access to social-networking sites. Facebook, as of now will ask you to upgrade your browser and will not allow you to login if you are on IE6. Orkut will too suggest you to upgrade to latest ones. Google Apps does not support old browsers any more effective March 2010.

Security adviser at Microsoft admits the fact that IE6 can limit the web. If you install a copy of WinXP, all you need not do is upgrade your browser. But, please be aware of the above said risks before installing or using IE6. It was funny noticing 'Internet Explorer' changing to 'Internet Exploiter' in a system running WinXP.

Other old browsers

There has no much risk reported on other older browsers like that have been reported for IE6. But still, it is always better to keep out of them.

I was harassed of the “Aw, Snap!” error brought up by Chome 3 every time I open a webpage based on Java or some webkit based ones. That nasty thing forced me to use Firefox for a while. But, Firefox made me down due to its consumption of large amount of time to open a window, so after Chrome 4 released, I dumped Firefox and was back to Chrome. But many people still like to use Firefox.

What can we do?

Simple, if you are just someone, wanting to access social-networking sites and most of the risk-free sites, all you need to do is upgrade to a latest browser. You can always download the latest version of the browsers from their respective homepages. Those maybe Chrome, Firefox or IE. I personally recommend Google Chrome. Also get yourself a good antivirus and keep it updated for the side of better safety.

The FIFA World Cup 2010 is underway and I must confess that almost everyone here at rtBlogs is football crazy. Now that the World Cup is underway we have got our computer ready for the football action that will unravel over then next whole month.

Here I am listing 5 things you can do to stay up to date following the World Cup.

#1. Add FIFA extension to your Chrome browser

Chrome browser has an official extension from FIFA which lets your follow the World Cup action live along with other match previews and news related to the mega event.

In Windows, you generally take notes on notepad. It is a useful tool but while working on a browser, switching to notepad for taking notes is a time consuming process.

If you are a Firefox user, then you can use Scribbly Firefox extension to take notes quickly right inside the browser. You can also create to-do lists or write any important points which strike during an online work.

Download and install the extension. After restarting the browser, you'll get the Scribbly icon on the bottom right of your Firefox browser. Click on the icon to open this tool.

You can find several tab icons on this tool. First icon is for taking notes. You can write the subject of your note in the subject field and then write the message in the box given below. You can send it (scribble it) to your email ID. To send the note, you have to set your email ID first by clicking on the second tab.

Explore FIFA World Cup 2010 through new Twitter interface

Twitter has caught the FIFA World Cup fever with a new way of showing us all Tweets related to the World Cup. This interface not only streams real time Tweets which are about the FIFA World Cup but it also streams country related tweets. This also doubles up as a time table for FIFA World Cup.

Just visit the page Twitter.com/worldcup/worldcup and we are taken to the landing page of Twitter’s World Cup special interface.

The flags can be clicked and it shows the stream of Tweets about that team in the world cup. Also if you click on the current match link it streams live tweets about the match which is in progress. This is a great way to stay updated about the World Cup matches.

Blogger makes Template Designer available to all

Almost every budding blogger starts of with blogger and then moves on to Wordpress. Now that I am blogging professionally and surrounded by professional Bloggers I tend to forget many thousands of bloggers are not professional and basically end up blogging as a way to express their opinions rather than to make a living. Blogger now has released its template designer as default for everyone and not only in its draft section.

According to Google there are over 350,000 words published with blogger platform every minute. It is pretty smart that Blogger is not trying to compete with Wordpress but making itself a better platform for budding bloggers and writers who do not want to really look at blogging as a business.

Blogger a few months ago also introduced the option of creating pages and now improved ways to customize templates.
