Usniff: A Meta Search Engine For Torrent

Sometimes ago, Rahul wrote a very nice article on torrent search engines. If you are searching for a rare file on torrent then switching between various search engines is a time consuming process.

How to Customize Google Search Background

There has been an announcement of launching Customized Google Background option throughout the net. We are happy to announce its launch in India.

Today, Google came up with custom background option in Google Search. I’m really impressed with the addon and hope that every googler will like it. Previously, it narrowed its gap with Yahoo by bringing I-Google and now it has left Bing far behind by bringing the Custom Background option. Now the other search engines don’t have a unique feature other than Google. It seems that Google has started to grab the entire Internet World and Business.

I’m adding the screenshots having details how to add it.

Step 1 : Click : ” Signin to use background image”

Step 2 : Sign in your account

Step 3 : Choose your picture. You can select over various sources like Google Image Search, Picasa, Public Gallery and Editor’s Picks.

Step 4 : Make a selection from previous step. I chose a picture from Editor’s Picks and it look like below.

Features : You can set multiple images over multiple accounts. Whenever, you login a Gmail Account, you will get your customized wallpaper at Google Search.

This feature is really cool and now Google has met up the only difference which Bing had.

How to Set Multiple Homepage In Mozilla Firefox

This trick is for the users who want to set multiple homepages with Mozilla Firefox.

If you want your favorite websites (such as www.gmail.com and popular search engines like google.com and bing.com ) that you visit regularly when you start your browser , to open directly as your browser starts , you need to set multiple homepages.

So here are the steps to set multiple homepages with Firefox browser:

Open your Mozilla Firefox browser.
Then go to Tools >> Options >> General >> Home page.
So to set Multiple Homepages, www.google.co.in | www.devilsworkshop.org | www.bing.com
Paste the above code in Home page as URL.
Then Hit Home button on browser you will get three homepages open at same time.
You can set two or more than two homepages by modifying above code and putting '|' symbol between two URLs.

Homepage is where you set the URL of website that you want at startup of your browser.

Note: These steps are not applicable to Internet explorer, Google Chrome browsers. For these browsers you need write JavaScript code in home page URL.Soon I will be posting the steps to get multiple homepages on IE and Google chrome.

JJSplit: Free Opensource alternative for HJSplit

I’ve been using Linux for some months and was searching through the synaptic Package Manager and cannot find an equivalent Utility to HJ Split. The Linux version of HJ Split was not very effective and I went through many forums and posts. Got some results but not really satisfied!

I wondered if I’m just not using the right search parameters?

So, I tried randomly by replacing ‘H’ with ‘J’ in HJ Split as in for example I have entered JJ Split and hit the search button.

I found a software that is named JJ Split.

What does it do?

A file splitter made in java to split and join files very quickly for easier transfer over the internet.
It has the option to delete parts one by one while joining/splitting.
Supports joining .001, .002 parts as well. Just double click to join the files..”
I was pleasantly surprised and stunned in its speed and performance. It guess it is surely be few times faster than any other software like HJ Split.

Gmail simplifies video, audio and group chatting

Gmail has recently made some changes to the way people use chat on it. One reason why people will like using Gmail chat is there is not need for separate messenger and also we can use video and audio chat. We can also have a conference with more than 2 online contacts.

What was not convenient about it was that all these options were hidden inside these chat windows and let’s face it that is not really the best way to make users happy.

So now Gmail chat has three simple button like option with every chat window open with a contact. This makes it more easy and streamlined.

As you can see in the image above chatting options are simplified by camera, phone and add person icon which were not present before. This change will probably make it easier for Gmail users to use these feature more often than they do.

Gmail recently has been aggressively upgrading many features and adding new ones like drag and drop attachments along with Google Maps being previewed with Gmail. Gmail chat still does not have the option of sending files to users and I wonder when that feature will be made available.

Twitter Scrutinize Links to Prevent Malware

Since few months Twitter users are facing problem of spamming through direct messages on their Twitter accounts. The direct messages contain links to unwanted websites and spreading malware and phishing. The main reason for quick spread is because the link is shortened and as soon as user clicks on the link, it directs them to unwanted websites.

Twitter took an action against it and removed all such detected malware links. Twitter is also trying to expand the link service which is right now in testing mode on few twitter employees. According to this new policy, the links shared will be shortened with a t.co URL for display on SMS and for web user it will be either whole URL / page title or half URL such as for a link http://devilsworkshop.org/share-large-files-for-free-online-with-wetransfer/ , web users may see the links as devilsworkshop.org/share-large.

The twitter developers are trying to select the shortened link which is informative and appropriate for application. Right now Twitter is rolling out this services on few accounts like @TwitterAPI, @raffi etc. Soon it will be rolled out for all the links and accounts.

According to me, Twitter took a nice step against malware links. At least we don't have to be conscious while clicking on shortened link and keep guessing on which page we are going to land. Hope Twitter takes this step soon for all the accounts. Mean time, if you want to secure yourself with spam shortened links then you can try out Unhid to expand the links and check where shortened URLs redirect you.
