NOKIA Money Launched- Pilot Started In India

Posted: 15 Feb 2010 02:43 PM PST

NOKIA has launched its global financial services initiatives, with its pilot plan starting in Pune, India and to be rolled out in rest of the cities in a few months. The announcement came at World Mobile Congress 2010 in Barcelona, Spain.

Nokia has teamed up with YES Bank to introduce Nokia money  services in one of the largest Metropolitan in India- Pune. The service will enable the people to transfer money by simply using their mobile phone number. They will also be enabled to pay mobile bills, recharge SIM cards with top-ups and pay for the goods and services that user avails.

Nokia plans to roll out Nokia money in 20 countries in its first phase, and India is one of them. Teppo Pavola, the global head of Nokia Money, when asked about regulatory challenges in India, answered-

The regulations are real tough in India compared to Philippines and Kenya. As RBI has a know your customer policy for banks, this could act as a limitation for the Nokia agents. Hence, we are talking to the banks in India who will work around the regulatory issues, bring the licenses and undertake cash management.

Earlier, economic times reported that Nokia is in conversation with six Banks for cash management and handling Banking regulatory issues, to start its pilot service. Now it has YES Bank as its partner to bring global financial mobile banking services in India. The present internet banking facility is limited to a single bank and operator.

To find out more, check out the Video featuring an interview with Nokia's Director for Alliances, Gerhard Romen-

In partnership with YES BANK, a commercial pilot of the global mobile financial services initiative has started in Pune, one of the largest metropolitan areas in India. The service in Pune, called Mobile Money Services by YES BANK, brings financial services to the consumers’ mobile devices.

Put YouTube videos in a loop

Posted: 15 Feb 2010 04:12 AM PST

You Tube is a great way to look up videos especially if you have a decently fast internet connection. I often watch video from tech reviews, to documentaries and sometimes I love catching a song. You Tube is a great repository of music just as it is of videos. So playing a great song on You Tube is something many of us do a lot. The problem with You Tube is that unlike a media player on the computer we cannot get the song to play repeatedly. Well that problem is solved now.

YouTube Repeater is a website which puts the video you are playing on You Tube in a continuous loop. You can search for videos in You Tube with the website itself.

These is another method which is when you are watching a Video on Youtube then you just need to change “youtube.com” to “youtuberepeater.com”. Changing the name of the domain puts the video in a loop. ;-)

I still prefer using Chrome extension CoolIris for viewing and browsing for Videos online in You Tube but a continous loop is not present in that extension. I must say I like this idea of putting a video in a loop.

Do check out Youtube Repeater to try out this feature and let me know what you think of it through your comments.

Adam Tablet PC from India

Posted: 15 Feb 2010 01:48 AM PST

Since the weekend I have come across a couple of articles one online and the other in print about the new Tablet PC called Adam. It has been already labeled as the i-Pad killer. Making such predictions on a device being able to take on another and trounce it is very difficult. But comparison with the iPad will be inevitable. It will be presented to the world at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Adam has been developed in India in Hyderabad by Notion Ink. India has had a lot of success regarding teh software industry but Adam just might be the first big hardware product to come out of India.

Features

  • The screen will be PixelQi Screen (10 inch) and will actually consumer about a tenth of the power a Macbook’s screen does. This will also mean 10 hours of HD video being played without battery running out.
  • It will have a Camera (something iPad does not) and will support connectivity with Wi-fi, 3G and bluetooth. It will probably not have a 3G version in India; as the infrastructure for 3G currently is not too enthusiastic for Adam.
  • The best part is that Adam will come with a OS which is Chromium, Android and Ubuntu. This means open source and the source code will be made available for Adam for allowing a free hand to developers to make their own customizations to the OS.
  • The browsers will be Firefox and Chrome and it will have support for Flash and Multitasking.
  • The price range will be somewhere between $300 to $800. I guess Adam Tablet will be slightly cheaper than the iPad.

There are numerous features which Adam has and iPad does not. But it would be unfair as  far as comparisons go as more features being included does not mean it is a better product. We can only wait and see what the Adam will turn out to be. Meanwhile do watch a video about the Adam.

Hope you like it and tell me what do you think about it through your comments.
