Posted: 29 Dec 2010 07:30 AM PST

Social Media Management has become an important factor these days, to keep a track of your business in real-time and to attract unique customers to your website/service.  Mashable has nominated the following 5 tools in the ‘Best Social Media Management Tools’ category for the Mashable Awards 2010, which is  to be held next week at CES 2011.

Here are 2010′s Favorite social media management tools. Guys at Mashable carried out a voting process out of which 5 were selected.

1.TweetDeck

Today’s most popular tool for keeping track of tweets, photo tweeting and managing friends and followers. It does not have the ability to add tabs, and its speed with respect to refresh rate, interface etc. is way slower than its closest competitor HootSuite. It does not support scheduling tweets at a certain time, unlike HootSuite.

2.HootSuite

HootSuite supports a lot of features not supported by TweetDeck such as scheduled tweets, additional social networks (MySpace, Pingfm, WordPress, Linkedin) and multiple accounts and users. It shows a better performance than TweetDeck in terms of  display of statistics and speed. As far as the features, usability, support for other social networks is concerned, HootSuite wins hands down against TweetDeck.

Enable Google Instant Search In Google Chrome Omnibox

Posted: 29 Dec 2010 05:48 AM PST

Chrome featured Enable Google Instant Search In Google Chrome OmniboxMany of  you might know that we can search query in Chrome’s address bar to get Google result. Chrome is also going to add support for instant search in the latest upcoming stable release. Then we will be able to enter the query in the address bar(Omnibox) to watch the instant result.

Turn On Chrome Instant Search

Chrome instant is like when you enable it and enter text in the address bar(Omnibox) for faster searching and browsing, it will show the instant search like Google do.

But here is a little difference, Chrome's instant search shows a result for that query only. Suppose you have to search for "Android" you will start entering text "an" in the address bar  but it will show result for "an" not "android". Chrome instant does not predict words like Google do but it auto completes the frequently visited web pages.

Chrome instant is a nice feature but I found in one case it may slow you down. When you write any query in the address bar and Chrome finds a web page that matches your query then it loads that page first. For instance, when I type “d” in the Omnibox, Chrome auto completes my query as "devilsworkshop.org", since I frequently go to devilsworkshop.org.

If I type “n”, Chrome loads news.google.com. It may be useful for frequently visited pages, but loading a page just because I type a letter in the address bar is a bit too much. This way, you may end up loading a lot of pages while typing a query and that may be distracting and may slow you down.

Mozilla is set to begin a new training program for web-designers and developers in Jan 2011 for students and professionals, which would provide a 100% free developer training resource run in partnership with the Peer 2 Peer University.

The School of Webcraft is not a new establishment, as 15 classes were held in the previous semester, but they were more or less related to non-developer topics such as SEO. Now, Mozilla is trying to get around 30 classes for the January semester.

The length of the classes would be between 6-10 weeks. They'll cover topics relevant to web designers and developers, including HTML5, JavaScript and CSS. Any one who considers himself a novice or an expert can join the course. The course is expected to be started on January 26.

Students can learn through a combination of free and open learning materials, online study groups and hands-on assignments that test their skills.Since its an open project, expert developers can join in as well, and share their knowledge with the learning community. the Peer to Peer University claims that their classes are globally accessible, 100% free and powered entirely by learners, mentors and contributors.

By creating a completely free, open training ground for developers and would-be developers, Mozilla hopes to remedy some of the problems surrounding technology education.

Registrations for this program start on January 8 2011. If you are interested to learn more about this program, you can join their mailing list here.
