Posted: 22 Nov 2009 05:00 PM PST

This week I am back with ‘Monday Morning Blues‘ series of posts. A lot of things have happened in the last 2 weeks and the major change at Devils Workshop is that our contest ‘Blogger of the Month‘ has now become ‘Blogger$ of the Month‘.

Blogger$ of the Month

We will have three winners instead of one. The one who is rated 1st will get $75, rated 2nd will get $50 and finally the guest author who is rated 3rd gets $25. :-)

First Time Authors

A lot of new writers who have started to contribute to DW often submit posts which are sometimes copied from other sources. Devils Workshop has a strict policy regarding its content. There is one simple rule and that rule is your content has to be original. There have been a couple of instances when someone has reproduced an article from a magazine. This is not something we allow either.

Adsense Account

Some authors have many questions regarding Adsense account being configured for DW. We earn revenues from our Adsense account for which we use the DW’s URL. If you are creating an adsense account and for that you need to submit a URL then that URL has to be either your of your blog or even a friends blog. You cannot give DW’s URL as that will get rejected. We are now allowed to give DW’s URL to be shared with Adsense.

Twitter

The recently launched feature of twitter i.e the Twitter lists actually made bulk following easy. Now it’s so easy to follow my favourite news channel accounts, celebs profiles e.t.c and all I need is a single click to access the list for that particular category just because of Twitter lists.

Just like the other lists on Twitter I made a list for DW readers as well which follows all the celebs, politician, popular people, anchors, models e.t.c from India and from rest of the world and most of them are globally known celebs. And it’s not just ten to fifteen people list, it’s seriously a long long list, better you check the names yourself. In the list we have (this is just a preview, actual list is longer than the given below :P ) profile like,

  • Imran Khan
  • Karan Johar
  • Preity Zinta
  • Barkha Dutt
  • Gul Panag
  • Jaredcotter
  • Kim Kardashian
  • Priyanka Chopra
  • Dino Morea
  • Barack Obama
  • Eminem
  • RDB
  • Uday Chopra
  • Craig David
  • Oprah
  • Rishi Rich Productions
  • Akon
  • Mallika Sherawat
  • Shakira
  • Sonam Kapoor
  • Denise Richards
  • Pamela Anderson
  • Britney Spears
  • Michael Jackson
  • Kirstie Alley
  • MTV India
  • VJ Bani J

Follow this list at @Sauravjit/celebs. Most of the twitter account links in this list are verified account which ensures that the account are genuine. For other accounts I tried my best to get the original account but if you think that the account is not original please drop a comment below. Also to follow selected profiles only get the link of the profiles in this list here (via Music ‘N’ Lifestyle)

Check if your website is mobile friendly

Posted: 22 Nov 2009 05:59 AM PST

If someone says ‘the internet‘ our minds immediately pulls up an image of someone on a PC or a Notebook. Hence the priority of website design is usually on how a person using a PC or Notebook might perceive it. A report suggests that over 20 Million people access websites through their mobile devices every single day.

  • Mobile Validator is an online tool which can help you find out, how mobile friendly is a particular website. Just visit the Validator W3C website and enter the URL and click on Check.
  • It will carry out a bunch of tests and show results on if the website is mobile friendly or not.

I tested some popular websites with Mobile Validator.

Google.com

This test proves the Google.com should work absolutely fine being accessed with any mobile device. The image shows the results after the test.

MSN.com

MSN.com is obviously not a URL which is mobile friendly. The result “This page is not mobile friendly” was actually surprising and I did not really expect MSN.com to fail the test.

Yahoo.com

Yahoo.com when tested did much better than MSN. It scored a 93/100 3 tests failed out of 50. This does mean that some mobile devices might have issues viewing Yahoo.com

So if you have a website or a blog which you plan to make it available online, you might want to lookup Mobile Validator to carry out certain benchmarks for the website.

Mozilla Firefox add-on for scheduling meetings on Gmail

Posted: 22 Nov 2009 02:48 AM PST

Meeting Scheduler is a Firefox add-on, which is useful to schedule meetings and let people know about the meeting along with the time it would last through Email. This is only available through Firefox and works only for Gmail.

For someone like me who is using Gmail on Firefox all the time I was interested in what this Firefox add-on brings to the table.

Meeting Scheduler

  • The Meeting Scheduler is a add-on for Firefox browsers only. Download the Meeting Scheduler from Firefox add-on link.
  • Install the add-on and restart Mozilla. Log into Gmail account and start using Meeting Schedule (see image below)

  • To schedule a meeting is very easy, click on New Meeting. It pulls up a calendar which is very similar to Google Calendar. You can select the time frame by highlighting it with the mouse. Enter the time the meeting will last and send it to email addresses you want to notify about the meeting.
  • This can also be a great way to send yourself reminders with Gmail.

I hope you find this interesting, if you have any new information on add-ons or features for Gmail, let me know through your comments. :-)
