MorseTweet: Twitter meets the telegraph!

Posted: 15 Oct 2010 09:39 AM PDT

Way back in the 1840s the telegraph changed the way the world communicated. Messages were passed across hundreds of miles within seconds. All this was because of the Morse Code used by the Telegraph system. The world was a smaller place suddenly.

Twitter has done something similar. It has managed to get people from different places and interests to share and communicate about anything and everything that is happening around the world. With Morse Tweet I could send tweets in Morse code. :-)

  1. Visit Morse Tweet website and just type in your message.
  2. The message is then converted into a Morse code. Morse code is in many dots and dash per character and hence we can only send messages up to 45 characters. :-|
  3. The tweet is displayed in the code along with a link. Clicking on the link can take you to the message in English. :-D

From a practical point of view I do not think it serves any purpose except it would be fun to send some secret tweets to people who do not know about this. Well I guess if you are reading this post, the secret is out. :-P

Get old Google Doodles on your search page

Posted: 14 Oct 2010 10:30 PM PDT

Google started using Doodles on their search pages for some fun I guess. But this fun started to become, a tradition of sorts and many times while on Google we wonder what is next?

Amongst all the Google Doodles there are a few which are my favorite ones. Like the one below from 2007 celebrating the 60th Independence day. I wish there was a way to get these doodles back on when I visit Google.com with my browser. Unfortunately the doodle comes with an expiry date as it is supposed to only celebrate something special on that particular day.

Favourite Doodle on Chrome

  • Favourite Doodle is a nice littler extension for Chrome. Just check out the link for it and install it.
  • Now when you visit Google.com, you can automatically click on the doodle itself to browser through a gallery of doodles from the past.
  • I liked that it was a comprehensive list. I could check all the Doodles from the past and found one I liked, as you can see in the image. Independence day for me is everyday I guess.

Favourite Doodle on Firefox

If you are using Firefox browser along with Chrome like I do, then to get my favorite doodle I needed a Grease Monkey script to be downloaded. Just download it from code.google.com. For using this, you will need GreaseMonkey installed on your Firefox browser. Look it up at our GreaseMonkey how to guide.

Keep your favorite doodle as default on Google search. Do drop in your comments and views with any similar tools and extensions you might know about.
