Apple buys a company to create its own Google Earth

Google Earth was that awesome software which allowed you to rotate the entire world and then zoom into cities, suburbs and even your backyard. It was a one of a kind software and we can spend literally hours exploring the world in a virtual way.

Now that gave Google a tremendous product and it even has a premium version for more advance uses like town planning and geological surveys.

Now Apple has decided to crash Google Earth party and bought a company which does pretty much the same things as Google Earth.

Apple has bought a 3D map making service called Poly9.com. The website has been taken down and according to Slashgear, Apple will probably create a competitor to Google Earth.

Google Earth has a fantastic and massive fan base along with customized maps and other information being shown through mash-ups and extensions. This will be very difficult to replicate for Apple but I guess like Google walked into Apple’s territory with Android and then Nexus One, Apple can also crash Google Earth party.

This is mainly because some people blog just for fun and are not serious about making it a profession or even make money out of it. Jimdo is a free service which is ideal for people who are looking to sell things online.

Jimdo allows with free account storage space upto 500 MB.
It also supports Photo galleries, widgets and also a store for selling things from your website.
One good point about this hosting service when compared to other free services is that it allows adding Flash on it.

#2. 000webhost

000Webhost is the probably one of the best free hosting options you might come across.

000Webhost allows upto 1.5 GB storage space along with 100 GB/month data transfer.
It allows 3 MySql data bases and backup system. It also allows PHP along with password protected directories.

110mb as its URl suggest allows free hosting upto 110 MB.

110mb.com allows data exchange of upto 100 GB along with the 110 MB storage space.
It does not allow WordPress, Drupal or MySQL databases.
It is one of the few free services allowing unique domains!

#4. Freewebsites

Freewebsites is another free hosting service which allows having your unique domains.

Freewebsites allows unlimited free web space but has restrictions on file size to upto 5 MB.
It also is hosted and supported on Unix servers.
The catch is they do not register the domain name but allow hosting. So you might have to buy the domain name from elsewhere and then use Freewebsites hosting features.

#5. Webs

Webs is meant for very limited users but is a free hosting service.

Webs allows upto 40 MB disk space and 500 MB monthly data transfer.
It also supports a single FTP account.
Webs.com does not support MySQL databases and also programming languages.

This list of 5 website hosting services are really useful as far as your are not really looking for professional solutions regarding having your own websites. These services are ideal for students or groups to have a free website with limited features and limited traffic.

Google suggests show direct links in search bar

Today I was playing around on the Google search page and looking up interesting Google suggestions which have always had its funny posts. But Google suggest feature which automatically shows suggestions in a drop down in the search box are quite useful and probably makes its easier for people who do not use search engines a lot.

I came across some direct links with Google suggestions which was quite a first for me. Usually only keywords would appear but type in only ‘Gmail or ‘YouTube’, I came across a direct link. It was behaving quite a bit like a browser with access to history.

As you can see in the image above there is a direct link to Gmail showing up first on the drop down images. I tried to see which website pull up with such direct links in Google suggestions and very popular websites all showed up with direct links to them in the suggestions.

This basically means there is no need for using the address bar of your browser while on Google if you are visiting a popular website like Facebook, Twitter or Gmail.

I had recently written about Google Vs Bing and fact is these are the innovations from Google which is why so many really use it even if Bing gives almost pretty similar results.
