How to configure Windows Live Mail with Hotmail and Gmail accounts

Most people using Windows XP might be familiar with the email client called Outlook Express. With Windows 7 there was no pre-installed email client and one has to install the Windows Live suite for access to the email client called Live Mail. I started playing around Live Mail to check how I could download my mails from Hotmail and Gmail to my computer.

First Download Windows Live Mail for your Windows 7 Operating System.

Configure your Hotmail or MSN account with Live Mail

While you have opened Windows Live Mail, just click on a the link that reads “Add email account” and you will asked to enter your email details.
Enter the Email address which is your Hotmail account along with the Password. You can choose to save the password and then the Display name. (see image below)
Once done just click on Next and Live Mail will start downloading your email directly from your Hotmail or MSN email id.

Configure Gmail account for Live Mail

Configuring Gmail is a little trickier. First go your Gmail account with your browser click on settings.
Under settings you can see Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab. Click on it.
Enable POP mail with at your desired Gmail account. (see image below)

Now back to Windows Live Mail, click on “Add Email Account” and then enter your Email details like Email ID, Password and Display Name. Also make sure you select Manually configure right at the bottom.
Now at the next screen select POP3 Server and enter pop.gmail.com along with entering Port as 995 and select the check box for This server requires secure connection (SSL).
Now enter smtp.gmail.com as you Outgoing server and the Port as 465. Make sure to check SSL option below Outgoing Server too.

Now you start downloading your emails from your Gmail account with Windows Live Mail.

Windows Live Mail is a great software and free to download from the Microsoft website. For people who do not have a always “ON” internet connection this can be a decent idea to download your mail and send it all at once. Twitter has taken pretty much a central place for most people to get the word out about their blogs and services they offer. The idea is we follow some interesting people and some people who find your tweets interesting will follow you. This way your Twitter account’s activity keeps on increasing.

UTweet is a website which allows anyone to create a video presentation of any Twitter account.

About UTweet Features

Visit the UTweet website and type in your Twitter handle or any keywords you want to create a video of the activity online.
A movie like presentation will be streamed with various Tweets and ReTweets regarding the Twitter username along with display pictures being shown stylishly.
UTweet saves the Video on your computer and allowed me to share the link to my Twitter followers so they could also see a flashy video of my Twitter activity.
UTweet also formats a new icon from your display picture and you can download this icon.

5 great ways to search for PDF documents online

Ruchi wrote a nice post a few days ago detailing 10 websites to download free E-books. It got me think and looking up other ways to search for PDF files online. E-books are fine but there are also many online forms, documents, pamphlets all in PDF format which someone might be interested in look up.

Here are some tips and websites to search for PDF files online.

#1. Search for PDF files with Google Search

You can search for PDF files using Google. It searches the web for files with extension being PDF rather than links.
For example when you want to search for PDF files regarding CSS just type in “CSS filetype:pdf” without the quotes into the search bar.
This will make Google pull up relevant PDF files on CSS.

#2. Search for PDF files with Bing

What works with Google also works with Bing search engine.
To have Bing search for only PDF files need to write the keyword first and then file type has to be defined.
I searched for PDF files on CSS with this query “CSS Filetype:pdf” without the quotes.

#3. PDF Search Engine

PDF Search Engine is a website which has been covered before on DW.
It allowed me to search for only PDF files online. No fancy filetypes had to be defined as this website only searches for files which are in PDF format.

#4. Search PDF Geni

Search PDF also looks up a decent list of PDF files with any keyword. It is pretty similar to PDF search Engine.
The only downside is that it supports multiple languages and sometimes with keywords like “CSS” it can give you results which are not necessarily in your language.

#5. Search PDF files on Yahoo Search

Just like we can search for only PDF files with Google and Bing, I could also search for PDF files with Yahoo Search.
With Yahoo the example to use for the query is “CSS originurlextension:pdf” without the quotes.
