Lenovo T-series laptop promises 30 hours of battery life!

Posted: 22 Feb 2011 09:30 AM PST

Another major announcement and the tickle within me to share it with you all. Lenovo, a company which acquired the ThinkPad division of IBM in 2005 and finally took over its manufacturing as well as marketing.

In a recent announcement, Lenovo is upgrading its T-series laptops with new processors, upgraded battery life and boot faster. The upgraded models, namely 14" T-420S and 15.6" T-420 will get the new Core i5 and i7 processors, respectively. While the new T-420S laptop claims to boot 30% faster, the thick & heavier T-420 series laptops claims to run upto 30 hours on a single full charge of its 9-cell slice extended battery.

I am not yet sure about the market price in India, though reports suggest a starting price of $1329 and $779 for the T-420S series and T-420 series laptops, respectively.

Get Firebug Lite on Your Chrome Browser

Firebug lite logo thumb Get Firebug Lite on Your Chrome BrowserEveryone who has done a little bit of tweaking with CSS or is a into web-designing, would surely be well versed with Firebug Add-on with Firefox. This add-on is mainly used by most developers, as it allows making changes and seeing them on a live website.

At rtCamp, many colleagues stick to Firefox even though I keep recommending Chrome. Their first argument seems to be Firefox has so many add-ons and Firebug seems to be highly recommended.

Firebug Lite is available with Chrome. It is lightweight and has quite a few functionalities of Firebug add-on on Firefox.

Firebug Lite Features

  • Firebug Lite can be activated for a particular domain. So every time you visit a particular domain with Chrome, Firebug Lite starts.
  • We can inspect and change HTML in real-time. A lot of the features are pretty similar to Firebug  on Firefox.
  • The extension seems to be a lot faster and quicker with Chrome, especially if you are using Firebug Bookmarklet.
  • Unfortunately Firebug Lite does not support pages with frames and JavaScript debugger is also not available.

Even though I am not a web-designer and chances are I would only use Firebug Lite for some fun learning, I think having the power of Firebug on Chrome is another reason for me to stop using Firefox. icon razz Get Firebug Lite on Your Chrome Browser

[Tested] Software to download complete YouTube playlist

Posted: 22 Feb 2011 02:00 AM PST

I don't doubt if you already know a Firefox add-on to download all videos of a user or a playlist to your PC, however I am sharing 3 software tools which works independent of any browser.

JDownloader

(+) I am not sure if the "J" was inspired by Java which is even its development platform, I am atleast sure that it will help you to download videos on any Operating system from not just YouTube but even public file hosts like Rapidshare and Megaupload even you not subscribed to their premium services. It even bypasses the need to enter a captcha manually. It also supports download Resume function.

(-) The interface seems to be somewhat "not instantaneous" and heavy on CPU. This is probably because of it's built platform is Java, and this is typical of Java-built software.

Free YouTube Download

(+) This looks neat and simple. No menus, no add-ons to shuffle with. Directly paste your video, playlist or channel url and it fetches the complete list for you to start downloading in any of the major formats.

(-) Only MP4, AVI and FLV formats are available. Many other important formats are not covered.

aTube Catcher

(+) This one is fantastic, though you must go to Tools menu –> YouTube to download multiple videos from a user or channel. It is not just for YouTube, but it lets you download from a wide range of services, mentioned here. However what other software cannot compete is its Turbo Download which offers upto 600% faster speeds. Also, it lets you search & directly download MP3 or Videos directly within the software. Offers almost all formats for videos and music.

(-) Found few bugs which even you may experience while using it.

Do post your comments if you have used any software you feel is better.

Android on Google’s path – “If you can’t convince people, confuse them”

Posted: 21 Feb 2011 11:45 PM PST

This piece of post may not convince you well, but it will at least not confuse you unlike Google. Ever since Google came out with it's Android for smartphones, the sale of Android phones has been on the rise (read Android wins over Symbian sales), but now it has started following the Google tagline – "if you can't convince people, confuse them"!

DW androidconfusion thumb Android on Googles path If you cant convince people, confuse them

Version History of Android

  • Android 1.1
  • Android 1.5 – Cupcake
  • Android 1.6 – Donut
  • Android 2.0 – Eclair
  • Android 2.0.1 – Eclair
  • Android 2.1 – Eclair
  • Android 2.2 – Froyo
  • Android 2.3 – Gingerbread
  • Android 2.3.3 – Gingerbread
  • Android 3.0 – Honeycomb

This is how Google has officially declared it's version history of Android. Out of all, the version 3.0 is specially optimized for tablets or devices with large screen sizes. Watch the video for Android 3.0 which says it's specially created for tablets.

Video preview of Android 3.0 Honeycomb

Where the confusion starts?

  • Google recently announced that Android 2.4 will be launched this Summers, does that mean Google is going to develop Gingerbread upto 2.9 separately?
  • A PC World report suggests that HTC announced its 7-inch Flyer tablet in the Mobile World Congress and you know what, it uses the Android 2.4 and not 3.0!!
  • Many reports suggest that Android 4.0 is to be named as "Icecream", while a TechCrunch report says Android 2.4 to be named as "Icecream Sandwich". I’m Confused!

I am not sure what Google inside story is, but finally the clear picture will be revealed only during the Google IO conference this year. Do post your comments, and do you think Google is intentionally trying to trick everyone with it's ice-cream gimmick just to keep talks going on?
