Earth Friendly Geothermal Heating And Cooling Systems

Back in college, I have to say that one my least favorite subjects was science and geography. I remember shunning away from all textbooks and materials related to the earth, energy and all that jazz.

But that all changed when I was tasked to report on geothermal systems and geothermal energy. My study then revealed the many opportunities and benefits that may be harnessed from this renewable, readily accessible, and yet still underutilized energy resource.

Simply put, geothermal energy is energy stored in the Earth. Coming from the Greek roots geo, meaning earth, and thermos, meaning heat, geothermal energy is one of the cleanest, most earth-friendly energy sources of the planet.

The three main uses of geothermal energy are: 1) for geothermal heating and cooling systems; 2) for electricity generation; and 3) for geothermal heat pumps to control building and interior spaces above the earth's surface.

Geothermal resources can provide power for many years. It is incumbent upon us, therefore, that the power generation sector manage geothermal resource efficiently. For as long as mankind successfully puts in place an efficient management system of this rich energy resource, we can be assured of reaping the many benefits of this efficient and sustainable energy resource.
