Extrinsic Or Intrinsic Motivation

I learned from my college Psychology class that motivation is the driving force one has that propels him towards the achievement of goals. In other words, it is the reason why anybody does anything. Their are two kinds of motivation, Intrinsic and Extrinsic. Intrinsic is the kind of motivation that drives a person for doing things from passion with-in while Extrinsic comes from external factors such as medals for students or promotion and corporate awards for employees.

In sports, the greatest motivation are trophies and awards. My son who's involved in various sports in school is very.. very proud of his baseball trophies, soccer trophies, Tennis Trophies and Softball Trophies. He has a cabinet in his room which displays his awards, medals and trophies. He's the kind of person who can easily be motivated with external factor. Even while still young, you can easily convince him to fo the work even if he doesn't like it as long as he will receive a reward.
