How to buy the perfect cooker

Posted: 22 Apr 2014 03:47 PM PDT

Of all the kitchen appliances, the cooker is the most important item, because it cooks all your meals. So, when it comes to buying a new cooker, not just any cooker will suffice, as factors such as cost and size have to be considered. Here is a list of the features all contemporary cookers should have, and why.

Flame failure device

A flame failure device is a small instrument that ensures any gas escape is kept to a minimum if the flame goes out in a cooker. So for instance, if you turn on your gas hob, but forget to light the flame, then it will automatically shut off after a short period. These are required in most cookers, but it's still prudent to make sure that your potential cookers all have this installed.

Storage Space

Space always seems to be at a premium, and the kitchen is no different. While not a necessity per se, it sure is nice to have an extra space to store those pans and trays. Some cookers have hidden nooks or small drawers built in, and these small details can make a huge difference in the long run.

Multifunction ovens

Ovens work in a slightly different way, and depending on your cooking style can be more or less suitable. That's why a multifunction oven is your best bet if you like to experiment with your cooking, or just have a taste for versatile dishes. Multifunction ovens combine many different settings with additional heating controls for maximum adaptability. Some even go as far as to have a rotisserie function, which is great for perfectly cooked, succulent chicken.

Hobs with options

The kind of hob you'll look for depends on whether you are going to use gas or electricity (keep in mind that you can still use a gas hob even if your home doesn't use gas). For a gas hob, a triple ring burner is ideal. If you decide on an induction hob, look out for boost functions (the equivalent of a triple ring burner).

As an added bonus, induction hobs have added safety features, such as child safety locks and residual heat indicators.

While realities such as price and space have to be realized, you can still get the features you want and need in a new cooker and with so many makes and models now available to buy online, you can afford to shop around and find the best deal.
