VLC Keyboard Shortcuts to Fix Audio/Video Delay in Movies Posted: 27 Jan 2011 07:00 PM PST One of the most irritating part while watching a movie on your computer is the delay between the audio/video streams! I see many friends often downloading a different print of the same movie. That’s a lot of work for most broadband users in India and many other countries. But if you are using the VLC media player, then you can simply synchronize audio/video using keyboard shortcuts “f” and “g” as highlighted in the screenshot below. After some trial and error you will get the characters’ lip-synced. On Windows OS, if “f” and “g” do not work, try “CTRL+F” and “CTRL+G” respectively. You can also edit keyboard shortcuts by clicking on “Change” button in same window (see following screenshot again) Link: VideoLAN – VLC Media Player Related posts:

YouTube’s crowd-sourced documentary premieres: Life in a Day Posted: 27 Jan 2011 02:29 PM PST YouTube has created a snapshot of the entire world’s life in a day. This has been done through an initiative of YouTube in which anyone with a video camera could record a few moments of their life in a particular day and send it to YouTube. The idea was for people to record and send clips on the 24th July, 2010 on YouTube. It was an experiment in which literally thousands contributed. Oscar-winning director Kevin Macdonald along with a team of editors went through over 80,000 clips and 4500 hours of footage to put together a 90-minute documentary about life in one single day across the world. I am sure the documentary will be interesting and worth looking up. It premieres at Sundance Festival 2011. If you want view the premiere you can check it out at YouTube’s Life in a day Channel. You can see this live at 8.00 pm EST (6.30 am IST). That can be a little inconvenient for people outside the U.S. In that case you can catch its repeat broadcast is at 7.00 pm, 28th January 2011, local time where ever you are in the world. Here is a short teaser of the documentary. Do drop in your comments. Link: YouTube’s Life in a Day Related posts:

“Break In If You Can” – Real Online Hacking Contest from IIIT Posted: 27 Jan 2011 11:29 AM PST “Break In If You Can” is official hacking contest organized by The International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad, India. This hacking contest is organized as part of Felicity, the annual cultural and technical festival, to be held from 18th – 20th February, 2011. Real Hacking Contest! Most hacking challenges creates a dummy site/scenario where organizers know in advance how far you can go! In most of those challenges, once you uncover security holes, you are often encountered with a lame message congratulating you. But in this real hacking contest, you are expected to hack into IIIT Hyderabad’s website itself i.e. http://iiit.ac.in/ They have promised not to sue you but make sure if you break-in successfully rather than damaging and creating havoc, you contact organizers to claim your prize. Prizes:As per official site 1st Prize is Rs. 5000. But I personally feel that this hacking contest itself is bigger than any other prize! Though, you can see complete list of prizes here. Event Date:The test run will be on Jan 29th, 2010 i.e. tomorrow and main contest will be on Jan 30th 2010. Link: Break In If You Can Related posts:

InboxCleaner – Clean your Twitter Inbox messages in bulk Posted: 27 Jan 2011 07:00 AM PST One of the most active social networks along with Facebook is Twitter. Twitter usually helps us really share and comment on interesting topics with our friends, followers, celebrities and even complete strangers. One very useful feature of Twitter is the Direct Message. This way if two people are mutually following each other on Twitter, they can send each other a message which is private. This is something like email. While I find it very useful to exchange messages once in a while on Twitter, I have quickly piled up a few messages on my Twitter account. Deleting them all is quite troublesome as there is no feature on Twitter which allows me to delete messages in bulk. InboxCleaner is a great online tool which helps delete messages quickly and also keep your Twitter profile clean. Just visit the InboxCleaner and login with your Twitter details. This takes us to a page with three options to delete messages. I could simply choose to Delete messages from a particular user or by content. In case you are not too picky a good option is to simply delete all messages. I wish Twitter had this feature integrated within its website but I guess until then InboxCleaner is the best option. Motorola Glam: India’s First Android Dual Sim (CDMA+GSM) Posted: 27 Jan 2011 02:30 AM PST In an attempt to increase its market share in a country like India, Motorola finally appears to take steps towards some innovation and hence launched the first ever Android phone with Dual sim (CDMA + GSM) technology known as the ‘Milestone XT800′ or simply Motorola Glam. The phone is a touch-screen and supports almost all features a user might be looking for in a smartphone. The price tag is around Rs. 32000 which might look big initially though it’s a great new comer for users of both CDMA as well as GSM. However now, the phone will be exclusively sold by AirTyme Communications in India. Features at a glance Camera: 5 Mega-pixel [autofocus, digital-zoom, dual LED flash] Operating System: Android 2.1 [a bit disappointing though] Messaging: SMS, MMS, Email (includes push email) Storage: 2GB card [expandable up to 32GB] Connectivity: USB 2.0, Bluetooth [wireless Bluetooth stereo included] GPS: Assisted GPS support [Google maps included] Multimedia: Video playback/capture/streaming [HDMI output included], Audio formats supported [includes WAV, WMA, AMR, MP3, AAC and lot more] Office: Support for viewing / editing documents [Word, Excel, Powerpoint, PDF and ZIP] I think this is going to be a great buy for users who are not even willing to leave the strong CDMA network as well as want to have a nice Android phone. However you need to compromise on the Android version. Think and then comment, “are you gonna buy it?” Related posts:

[Gmail Update] Desktop Notifications for new Emails & Chat Posted: 26 Jan 2011 09:30 PM PST Google in its yet another approach to make Gmail more friendly has introduced Desktop Notifications for Chats and any new Email messages. Desktop Notifications are possible under the pretext of HTML5 and available only for Chrome users as of now. This is clearly another attempt to attract users to Google Chrome browser which already has a market segment of more than 10% worldwide. Even I activated the feature to see how this works and found out the following:
Activation is easy and you will find the relevant settings under the Gmail Settings page in the General section with the title 'Desktop Notifications'. You can select what all Desktop notifications you want to receive like Chats, All new emails or only for Important emails. No doubt, you can always Turn off the notifications anytime in case you wish to do so. I guess this is a great move and will make Gmail much more favourite among the users. Let me know what you feel about this update and how do you plan to use Desktop notifications further. Don't hesitate even if you have some queries about this.
