You Tube unveils a new design to all users Posted: 01 Apr 2010 07:38 AM PDT You Tube has been redesigning their pages for a long time now and finally the new look is out. You Tube has spent over 8 months redesigning it and come up with some very interesting changes. The changes are not radically different but are quite significant. As usual there are some people who are bowled over by the new design and some who don’t take very kindly. Subscribe made easy…When you look up a video on You Tube now right about the video playing area you can see the account or channel name who has uploaded the video. It also neatly shows the number of videos uploaded by the particular account and a very prominent subscribe button. Ratings replaced with Facebook style ‘Like’ button…Now more five star ratings for your videos. It has been replaced with Like and Dislike buttons something which clearly has been borrowed from Facebook. I personally like this system as it will be used more than the 5 star ratings format. People prefer liking or disliking something rather than rating something. Sharing of social Networks made easier…With prominent buttons for Twitter and Facebook I guess You Tube is trying to get more friendly to social networks. Social networks are very important way for sharing videos. These are not new options and have been there for some time now but the new design makes it more apparent by having a cleaner interface. What You Tube has acheived here is certainly a more cleaner interface for viewing videos and also narrowed down on what they want their users to really look up. I do not think this new design is brilliant or great but I do not think it is bad either. I might end up liking it as I spend more time on You Tube. What do you think about the new design? BSNL gifts Double Speed to it’s Broadband Users (Unlimited Plans only) Posted: 01 Apr 2010 06:11 AM PDT First time, since 2007 I am feeling really cheerful about being a BSNL broadband user! Why? I went to office in the morning on 30th March 2010. And as a part of the same routine, I have practiced to reset BSNL modem on a regular basis to get uninterrupted Internet connection. But on 3oth it was something different! I started pinging BSNL DNS (which is also I do regularly to see terrible ping durations). I realized that ping duration was consistent at 7ms! When I started downloading attachments from my email, I was stunned and shocked with joy to see download speed of 110 Kb/sec which used to be at around 60 Kb/sec. I could not believe my eyes but yes it was true. I tested this for almost a day. Then I started searching all over as if there is something wrong with BSNL! That’s what comes to my mind (and I am sure it happens with many) when it is about them and then I came across the Source of this news!
Which simply means that BSNL is offering double the speed of your existing Unlimited Home Usage Plan. As a loyal broadband customer of BSNL for such a long time (We had no other option) I was expecting but they did not send email to notify about it. Most of the users are still not aware of this new limited time offer and many users are not getting double speed even if they have Unlimited Home Usage Plans! Few Pointers:
Now:
Here are few screen shots which might raise your eyebrows for sure, like it did to me.
My guess is that, since 3G services are very near to their launch, this could be a tech test happening for a month. And if everything goes well they might start giving this higher speed plans by default in the same price! I only hope that is the case. Grab .com domain name for 5.99$ from Ilovethisdomain. How to Customize your Gmail Web Clips Posted: 01 Apr 2010 04:07 AM PDT We all use Gmail every day, but there are very less bloggers who know about Gmail Web Clips. It is very useful feature of Gmail. Many bloggers think it to be distraction but I feel that is cool way for reading RSS feed.
This is a default Gmail Web clip: You can easily customize these RSS feeds according to the blogs, websites you are interested in with following these easy steps: 1. Login to Gmail Account and click on "Settings". 2. Select "Web Clips". 3. Now you can Search any blog's RSS feed you want to read or select any categories which are provided by Gmail. 4. Once you searched for blog/ category name, you can Add that Blog's RSS Feed or News from Gmail Category. 5. Click "ADD" when you find the clip of your interest. 6. This is the way your Web clips will look . I would suggest you to remove all other Default Web Clips which you don't find interesting. Click on "Remove" Button, which is on right side of Web clips. If you use Gmail Frequently then Web Clips is a best way to keep yourself updated about all interesting topics. Give it a try and don't forget to share your feedbacks. Google and it’s April Fools Day announcements Posted: 01 Apr 2010 01:46 AM PDT If you are following Google and their blogs for latest announcements then you might have read some incredulous news about Google and its products like Google changing its name and having a text only You Tube editor. I just thought I would review all the 1st April jokes Google is pulling off through its services. #1. Google changing its name to TopekaGoogle announced in its official blog that it was changing its name to Topeka. What was incredible was the reason it gave. It claims that Topeka a town in Kansas renamed itself Google. So to return the favor Google decided to rename itself after much deliberations as Topeka. So if this is not a April fools joke, then we might have to say ‘Topeka it’ instead of ‘Google It’. #2. Save money for You Tube with text based videoThis April fools joke is quite funny considering Google introduced a You Tube format called Text P with the caption that every time someone uses TEXTp mode it saves You Tube $1 per second of viewing. It follows up with wishing all a happy April fools day. (see image below) Try this one today by viewing a You Tube video and selecting TEXTp format. #3. New Google Wave Notification optionsGoogle announced new options with Wave Notifications through its blog. I was a little preplexed considering only a few weeks ago they had announced new notification options which I had written about. On reading a bit closely it was apparent that Wave team was celebrating April fools day. It gives you the option of how loud you want the notification to be! Here is the April fools day video for Wave notification that explains more in detail. Do you know of any more innovative ways for celebrating April Fools day?
