YouTube allows sharing videos directly on Blogger and Buzz

YouTube has already come up with a re-design of its website which has not really had many people complaining. One thing that they have made more significant, is the option to share videos with various options for Twitter to Facebook.

Now YouTube has unveiled the option of sharing YouTube videos directly from its website to your Buzz contacts along with also seamlessly sharing it on Blogger.

While using the Buzz button to share YouTube video it does respect privacy and you can choose to share the video publicly or even with certain email contact groups.
While sharing on Blogger it allows you to edit the Post title and also add some text in the Post. But this is useful for people using Blogger on personal or rather informal basis and not if someone is hosting a professional blog. In the case of a professional blog it is better to manually embed the videos.

What you can expect in the future form YouTube?

YouTube is experimenting with new features where you will be sent an email letting you know when someone who you subscribe to on YouTube, adds a new video. I guess this is some sort of a way to create feeds to let people know about new videos from their favourite YouTube contributors.

Twitter Official Android Application is Live

Twitter has been in news all the time. recently the launched @anywhere platform and announced that they are moving their authentication method to OAuth only. Today Twitter news is they have released it's long awaited Android application.

According to official blog announcement

Twitter for Android is a fantastic application to use, and sharing any link or photo is super simple too – just look for the share button in your favorite application and choose Twitter.
Reading tweets is easy in a bunch of places on your phone. Quickly access your timeline with the home screen widget, view a tweet location on a map, and see your friend's latest tweet in your phonebook, Google Talk list or any application that uses Android's Quick Contact bar

Many times we do not have a Anti-Virus installed on our computer. Some times such Anti-Virus applications give false alarms about a certain file or script. Sometimes we suspect that there is nothing wrong with a particular file and that the Anti-Virus software is raising a false alarm.

Most times in such cases it is better to scan your computer for viruses, trojans and malware scripts. Online websites which scan for viruses are great mainly because there is no need to keep updating the anti-virus database as its done by the website offering this service.

Below are 4 websites which will allow you to scan files your computer for trouble and that too for free.

#1. NoVirusThanks

This website allowed me to scan a particular file for a virus by scanning it with 24 Anti-virus programs which includes AVG, TrendMicro, Panda, Kaspersky, Vipre scanned form the website directly.
The only limitation is that the file size of NoVirusThanks is 20 MB.

Pretty much like NoVirusThanks I could simply upload any file from my computer and scan it online with VirusChief portal.
It uses multiple anti-virus scanners for scanning a file like AVG, AntiVir, Avast, Bit Defender and others.

#3. Dr.Web File Scanner

No registration required for using Dr.Web file scanner for viruses.
It is very useful for scanning a file for Mac or Linux users who are sending certain types of files to Windows users which might be defined as malware or suspicious.

#4. ActiveScan from Panda

ActiveScan 2.0 is powered by Panda Cloud Anti Virus. It allows you to scan your computer for viruses, trojans and malwares.
It can also carry out a quick scan of essential files on your computer.
It scans for more than 2.7 million viruses and trojans.
Active Scan can also be integrated on a website with a API being available for developers.

These 4 websites should be able to look up and diagnose a corrupt file on your computer. But it is not really a replacement or alternative for anti-virus applications installed locally on the system. These websites can more or less be used for diagnostic purposes but not for defending yourself from having infected files.

Google TV to be showcased next month during Google IO developer conference

A couple of months ago I wrote about Google getting into Television with its android apps for Dish Network and also entering with agreements with TV set manufacturers. I recently read on Mashable that Google TV will be unveiled during Google IO developer conference next month in May. Google IO Developer conferences is where Google usually showcases the next big product they are going to introduce. Last year they had introduced Google Wave.

Google will introduced the Android based Television platform during this conference and has probably entered into deals with hardware manufacturers like Sony, Intel and Logitech, who will release products on Google TV platform.

In all probability Google is betting that most television content in 5-10 years will be handled through internet connections and having a television platform will give it a great head start over competitors regarding apps and search content features.

Why is Google eyeing the TV screen?

There are three screens which dominate our everyday life regarding managing and accessing information. They are computer, mobile and television screens. Google already has a presence on two out of three and it wants to now have a presence in handling information on the TV screens.

In the future we might not really have channels regulate timings for our favorite shows but we might have to subscribe to shows through the internet and download or stream favorite shows on our television sets. This will be surely a place for Google search to get involved for people to search through a large repository of data on which show needs to be looked up by customers.

Google also owns YouTube and if YouTube videos could be streamed online to our television sets it could completely change the way we watch TV.

Google adds virtual keyboard to search pages

Have you every searched for something in a foreign language on Google search. Yes withing search settings there is an option for selecting a language you prefer to use for entering your search query. This makes Google so widely acceptable across cultures and languages.

Google today introduced a virtual keyboard on it’s search page. Below is me searching for something in Hindi and it pulled up a virtual keyboard for me to type in.

When you are looking up search results in one of the languages supported by virtual keyboard the small keyboard symbol appears. One click on it and the virtual keyboard shows up.

You can see in the image I am using Hindi interface for carrying out the search query. This I can do by clicking on ‘Search Settings’ at the right hand top corner. This will allow you to change the interface language into something else other than English.

At the moment virtual keyboard is only available for non-Latin languages and that is why it is not available with English. But I am pretty sure that it will soon be available for all languages including English in the near future.

This is yet another instance of Google adding new features to their search results and showing a lot of innovative ways to stay user friendly.

Where virtual keyboards can be useful?

I think virtual keyboards can be useful for many people, especially older people who might not find using the keyboard of a laptop very user-friendly. This can be helpful to them to just click on every character while entering a search query.

We often think computer geeks are Google’s customers but in reality Google’s biggest customers are people searching for things online to buy. Such people are not necessarily adept at using the computer. So a virtual keyboard makes a lot of sense. What do you think?
