RockMelt browser promises to be the next exciting new browser with a clear view of being useful from a social media perspective. It is based on Chromium. It promises to revolutionize social media usage by bringing in some intrinsic built-in features to the browser itself. As it is based on Chromium it supports almost all extensions which work with your Chrome browser.

Some expected features of RockMelt

The browser is basically specific for Social Media usage. Facebook friends with their display images can be seen on the browser itself.
Along with this you can see multiple features to use Twitter, YouTube and Flickr.
This seems to try to mash together the concepts of social media apps like Tweet Deck with a browser like Chrome.

I do not have an invitation to sign-up and use the browser so I will post a full-fledged review of it in sometime in the future.

Sign up for RockMelt

Meanwhile you can sign-up for RockMelt with your Facebook account. It will send you an invitation soon so you can use RockMelt browser. This has actually helped create a lot of buzz about RockMelt because invites are available to people who get invited to RockMelt. I guess a viral campaign is a nice way to build up publicity for a browser.

There are many browsers out there but RockMelt seems to be focusing more on social media as its calling card. Will this work for it? Do drop in your comments and views.

Split Browser Screen for Comparing Mockups on Firefox

I always find it difficult to compare mockups with my website, so I came across a Mozilla add-on which splits the browser in tile pattern. I used to compare the mockup with the original website is to toggle ALT + TAB. Then I found a better solution which can be used with Mozilla add-on called Tile Tabs. There are several ways of doing this but I found Tile Tabs the easiest to use.

How to go about it :

Install fire fox add-on "Tile Tabs".
Open your .JPG (whatever the extension is .gif .png) file in browser window.
Right Click your mouse button to open the image with Firefox.

Now switch to your browser.
Go to file menu->Tile.
Tile Tab->Below->choose your tab (in which the image file is opened).

Press F9 (Shortcut key) to toggle screen and F8 to toggle synchronize scroll.
Now you can see in the below image how it works.

Instantly Preview Websites with Google Search

Google has practically replaced the word “search”. Forget the internet, think of an abnormal day where you aren’t involved with the computer at all, you wake up – look for your glasses – slippers – clothes – keys – a way through the traffic – parking – the search never ends. If there is one entity that can define and then redefine this word, it has to be Google.

Google Instant Preview takes it to a new level. You are probably aware of the recent breakthrough with Google Instant which throws up search results as you type the search query. With Instant Preview, the user can preview the website of each search result before choosing to visit the page.

Instant Preview Features

Type in your search query and you will get the results. Next to the result links click on the magnifying glass icon which will display the preview. (check the above image)
It does not show the preview for flash run websites.
It works whether or not Google Instant is on or off.
In case you do not see this as a default on your browser visiting the Instant Preview landing page.
As per Google, you are 5% more likely to be satisfied with your search results but makes not difference to me.
